The extraordinary philanthrophy of Walter and Eliza Hall lives on

As we near the end of the sixth consecutive year of their support, we sincerely thank one of our most loyal supporters, Sydney-based charity, the Walter and Eliza Hall Trust.

Walter Hall and his wife Eliza were active philanthropists during their life together. Following her husband’s death in 1911, Eliza set up the Walter and Eliza Hall Trust in 1912 as a means of assisting those in need. In the 106 years since the Trust was established, it has given financial assistance to tens of thousands of Australians, priding itself on being able to respond quickly and assist where most others cannot.

Assistance Dogs Australia has specifically benefited from funds donated to the Walter and Eliza Hall Trust as a capital donation by the late Judy Lennox, who herself lived with physical disability and relied on an electric wheelchair for mobility.

“The partnership between the Walter and Eliza Hall Trust and Assistance Dogs Australia is now into its sixth consecutive year with The Trust having provided over $160,000 in funding for the training of Service Dogs,” says Helen Cook, CEO of the Walter and Eliza Hall Trust. “This has been a valuable and long-standing partnership for the Trust and we are proud of our association with Assistance Dogs [Australia] as both our organisations are focused on providing practical assistance to individuals who are wheelchair dependent.”

The Trust has helped to fund the training of multiple Assistance Dogs over their six year connection with Assistance Dogs Australia. The most recent graduate funded by the Trust, Goldie, is now helping her young owner Francesca, with everything from picking up dropped items, to accompanying her to medical appointments and helping Francesca to live as independently as possible.

We are particularly thankful to the Walter and Eliza Hall Trust for supporting us year on year, to enable us to provide freedom and independence to some of Australia’s most vulnerable people.”
