Leave a Gift in Your Will

“I just thought it was amazing and beautiful that a human being could train an animal to help people.”

Jennifer Jones still remembers the day she first learned about Assistance Dogs. There was an article in her newspaper about a dog that carried an oxygen tank on his back to help a little girl with breathing problems.

It was a story of love and loyalty that moved Jennifer to tears. So when the time came for her to rewrite her Will, she told us that she knew exactly what she wanted to do: “I asked myself, what do my children need when I’m gone? I wanted to give them a nice memory of me. So when I saw the picture of that little girl, I just thought that was the answer. I rang up Assistance Dogs Australia, told them my intention and asked them to send me the correct wording. That’s what they did. It was so easy.”

Leaving a gift (bequest) in your Will to Assistance Dogs Australia is a unique and beautiful way to continue making a difference beyond your lifetime. You will be helping people living with disabilities for generations to come. It’s a wonderful legacy.

How will you remember Assistance Dogs Australia?

There are three easy ways you can include Assistance Dogs Australia in your Will:

  • The simplest is by way of a residual gift. After providing for your family, you can nominate that you would like to leave part or all of what is left of your estate (the residue) to Assistance Dogs Australia.
  • Another way is by leaving a nominated percentage or fraction of your estate to Assistance Dogs Australia.
  • Or you may prefer to leave a specific gift – a specific sum of money, real estate, shares, bonds or such other gift.

Please be sure to discuss these options with a solicitor. They’ll ensure that your loved ones and the causes you hold dear benefit from your Will exactly as you would wish.

The appropriate wording to include in your Will is:

“I GIVE AND BEQUEATH to ‘Assistance Dogs Australia Limited’ my Estate (or_% of my Estate, or “the sum of $ …………. “) for its general purposes and I DECLARE that the receipt of the secretary or other proper officer for the time being of Assistance Dogs Australia Limited shall be a full discharge for my trustees for the bequest.”

Your bequest will make a great difference to the lives of many disabled people throughout Australia, in many cases giving them their first experience of freedom and independence.
